Trades & Trade Board
Trades let you swap shifts with a coworker, give a shift away (whole or in part), or pick up open shifts that others posted. It’s how the schedule flexes around real life — without bothering your admin.
Four kinds of trades
Swap
You and a coworker switch shifts. You take theirs, they take yours.
Giveaway
You hand your shift to someone else — they take it, you’re free. Nothing in return.
Split
Keep part of your shift and give the rest away. Perfect when you can work some of it but need to leave early or come in late.
Pickup
You grab a shift somebody else marked for the Trade Board. Open shifts show up as a gold highlight on your sub-group calendar — no extra page to dig through. Found money for anyone who wants extra hours.
Swapping with a coworker
Open a shift on your calendar
From My Calendar, tap one of your upcoming shifts. The shift details panel has a Propose trade button.
Pick the coworker’s shift you want
Browse their upcoming shifts and pick the one you’d like to take. You’re essentially proposing: “You take mine, I take yours.”
Send the request
Submit. They’ll get a notification. Until they accept or decline, the trade is pending in your Sent tab.
They accept (or don’t)
If they accept, the schedule updates automatically — you’re both notified. If they decline, no harm done; try someone else or post it to the Trade Board.
Giving a shift away
Find your shift
Open the shift you want to give away from your calendar.
Choose Give away
Pick the coworker you want to give it to. They’ll get a notification and can accept or decline.
Done
Once they accept, the shift is theirs. Yours to give, theirs to keep.
Splitting a shift — keep part, give the rest away
Can’t work your whole shift but don’t want to give up all of it? Split it. You keep the part you can cover and hand the rest to a teammate. Think of it as a give-away for a slice of the shift instead of the whole thing.
Open your shift and choose Split
Tap one of your shifts on My Calendar and choose Split & Trade Shift. Shifts shorter than 1.5 hours can’t be split — use Give Away or Swap for those.
Choose where to cut
Drag the slider to set the split point, then tap Flip to choose which half you keep and which you give away. Each half has to be at least 30 minutes, and the cut snaps to the half-hour.
Pick a teammate and send
Choose who gets the traded portion, add an optional note, and Send Split Request. Until they accept, it sits as pending in your Sent tab — just like any other trade.
They accept
On accept, your shift shrinks to the part you kept and a brand-new shift is created for your teammate. The schedule and everyone’s synced calendars update automatically.
The Trade Board
The Trade Board isn’t a separate page — it’s a layer on top of your calendars. Any shift in your sub-group can be marked for the Trade Board, which makes it light up gold and signals to teammates that it’s up for grabs.
Marking your own shift
Open one of your shifts from My Calendar and choose Mark as Trade Board. It now glows gold for your whole sub-group. Pull it back anytime with Remove from Trade Board before someone picks it up. Your own listed shifts always show the gold border on My Calendar, so you never lose track of what you’ve posted.
Picking up from the Sub-Group Calendar
Open the Sub-Group Calendar (or your dashboard’s Trade Board card, which takes you there) and turn on the Trade Board highlight. Every shift on the board lights up gold — tap one and choose Pick Up Shift to claim it.
Browse open shifts from My Calendar
Don’t want to leave your own calendar? Open Filters on My Calendar and set the Trade Board control to Overlay (your shifts plus open ones) or Only (open shifts on their own). Now you can shop for extra hours across every sub-group you’re in, right from home base.
A live dot means fresh action
When a teammate posts or pulls a shift, the Trade Board button on the Sub-Group Calendar shows a little dot — “new activity since you last looked.” Pop in and grab it before someone else does.
Sent vs Received — knowing what’s yours
Sent
Trades you proposed. Status badges show pending, accepted, declined, expired, or canceled. The Sent badge counts pendings — your asks waiting on someone else.
Received
Trades others proposed to you. Tap one to see the details, then accept (auto-updates the schedule) or decline (no hard feelings).
Common questions
Do my admin or coworkers have to approve trades?
For most trades, just the other person needs to accept. Some organizations require admin approval — if so, you’ll see an extra “Pending admin review” step in your trade history.
Can I cancel a trade after I send it?
Yes, as long as it hasn’t been accepted yet. Open the trade in your Sent tab and tap Cancel.
Can I give away just part of a shift?
Yes — that’s a Split. Open your shift, choose Split & Trade Shift, drag the slider to pick where to cut, choose which half you keep, and send the rest to a teammate. The shift has to be at least 1.5 hours long, and each half ends up at least 30 minutes.
Why can’t I pick up a shift? It says I already have one.
You can’t pick up a shift that overlaps a shift you already have — even if that other shift is in a different sub-group you weren’t looking at. They’d double-book you, so the pickup is blocked with a “You already have a shift at this time” message.
What if no one picks up my shift on the Trade Board?
It stays on the board until someone grabs it, you remove it, or the shift starts. If nobody picks it up and you can’t work it, talk to your admin before the shift starts.
Can I trade across sub-groups?
Trades are usually within the same sub-group, since they share roles and locations. Cross sub-group trades aren’t supported in most setups — check with your admin.
I clicked a trade link in an email and landed in the wrong place — what happened?
Deep links go straight to the trade dialog. If your session expired, you’ll get bounced to sign-in first. After signing in, click the link again and it’ll open the right trade.
